“O, you who believe fasting is prescribed to you, as it was prescribed to those before you that you may acquire self restraint.” Al-Qur’an, 2:183
The Month of Ramadan Arrives
INTERNATIONAL – Seasons are marked by particular patterns, activities, and awakenings to signal a ‘comeback’ or a response to a natural predisposition.
Ramadan is the prescribed Season of Fasting for the Believer to bear the effects of heat or dryness coupled with a yearning from our physical bodies, for a disciplined month-long Fast out of love for the Creator, from daybreak to sun set.
The Ramadan Season is characterized by self-discipline, patience, sacrifice and putting others before ourselves.
It is a Season for washing away our sins and leaving only our good deeds. Moreover, Ramadan is distinguished by a heightened piety proceeding from the gratefulness of a servant to the Creator and the subsequent cleansing of the soul with a purity of both thought and action shielding against self-centeredness and appetites for accumulating mere things to the detriment of realizing what is really important.
Ramadan allows our hearts and souls to open, to become more compliant and receptive to the remembrance and admonition of Allah’s Commands.
And the Season always returns on time and in time for all.
Ramadan is an eradicator of racism, prejudice and unfair discrimination…a social justice equalizer pointing to the other great symbol of what shall come later in the Hajj.
Whereas in the off seasons, we accumulate temptations and the weight the world places upon us, and we urgently need the load lightened from overindulgence from both the good and the junk food, the influences of television, or the internet or any other thing that diverts us from the more serious concerns like justice and equity for the least among us, personal to group accountability including pondering upon man’s relationship with man and his relationship with G-d.
By the hour of the Blessed Season of Ramadan’s arrival, we are in desperate need of a spiritual detoxification to recover a necessary self restraint. And our Prophet (S) reminds us: “He who does not desist from obscene language and acting obscenely during the period of fasting, Allah has no need that he did not eat or drink.” (Bukhari Muslim)
Let us now turn ourselves wholeheartedly to that which will give us life.
This Blessed Season seamlessly assembles all the Pillars for us into a devotional sublimity in perfect concert first of testimony that there is no deity worthy of worship but Allah, that Muhammad is His Messenger; it then moves us from belief to actions of reading intently the Final Scripture, to prayer, charity, fasting, and arrival to the lesser Eid, and finally moves us to the greater Eid of Hajj… to the House of Allah (SWT) to witness the true equality of the same mankind we are asked to consider the least of during Ramadan.
The Ramadan Season is indeed a powerful re-birthing for our spirits and our hearts; it is an eradicator of racism, prejudice and unfair discrimination…a social justice equalizer pointing to the other great symbol of what shall come later in the Hajj.
We pray you, your family and community enjoy the Choicest of Rewards for the service and sacrifice made solely to please Allah (SWT) during the Blessed Month.
From Team CWSC…Ramadan-Ul-Mubarak!
Blessed Mother’s Day…
NATIONAL – This year we get the chance during the Blessed Month to say a special thank you to one who deserves the greatest respect…CWSC wishes all our Mothers a Blessed Mother’s Day. Enjoy this day set aside to honor the one who deserves our greatest respect.
“And We have enjoined upon man kindness toward parents. His mother bears him with hardship and gave birth to him with hardship, and the bearing of him and the weaning of him is thirty months, till, when he attaines full strength and reaches forty years, he says: My Lord! Arouse me that I may give thanks for the favor wherewith You have favored me and my parents, and that I may do right acceptable to You. And be gracious to me in the matter of my seed. Lo! I have turned unto You repentant, and lo! I am of those who surrender to You.” Al-Qur’an, 46:15

CWSC Scholarship Cycle Open Until June 20!
Encouraging academic excellence, civic engagement and historic preservation
NATIONAL – Scholarships are another intelligentsia component at CWSC and focuses on the fact that while we’re working on any number of issues at any point in time, we must devote resources simultaneously to secure our next generation intelligentsia leaders. Each February during African American History Month through June, our scholarship cycle opens to qualified matriculating college-bound high school and current college students of all faiths.
In addition to providing cash funds to pay for higher education, our scholarships feature a historical and cultural preservation component that offers families of pioneers the ability to open nationally supported, tax deductible college scholarships in honor of a pioneer.
Through MAP scholarships, CWSC is a national scholarship administrator helping families establish lasting legacies for those who helped make a home for Al-Islam and/or religious freedom and civil rights in America. In essence, the next generation will learn about our pioneers’ contributions and be inspired to not only get an education, but to also be civically engaged in helping to remake the world.
Because of the generosity of families in the MAP program and donor support, we now offer five (5) scholarships including the Payton Next Generation Scholarship; Taheerah R. Muhammad Educational Excellence Scholarship; Twin Servant of Peace Excellence in Broadcasting & Communication Scholarship; Words Make People Literary Excellence & Scholarship Award honoring Imam W. Deen Mohammed; and the Yahya K. Muhammad Business & Community Leadership Award.
CWSC Scholarships helps us show our students we care about their future and need their voice and intellect at the table of shuraa baynahum for the community’s future. Encouraging our students and making a contribution to higher education through college funding are great blessings for us all.
To apply, contribute to a scholarship or start a scholarship in the name of your loved one, either current or posthumously; visit Scholarships right here at CWSC…their future is our future.
Thank you to Qur’an Shakir, CWSC Scholarships Director for her leadership. Hear a special encore broadcast on CWSC Scholarship Programs on the Power of Educating Our Own. Contact the Director at sharingourlegacy@gmail.com or info@cwsc.us.
