Leadership Council

“We have to trust our youth…We would like to see our “youthful” adults go forward
and show us that they can lead the community.”
Imam W. Deen Mohammed (ra)

The CWSC Leadership Development Council (LDC) offers deserving students aged 15–22,  a unique leadership and management skills building opportunity by pairing them with CWSC national team and committee directors for 9 months.

The purpose of LDC is to practically connect the present with the future by identifying promising youth leaders and exposing them early to the issues facing our communities and institutions while encouraging a civic commitment to helping achieve our model community vision.

CWSC is committed to helping our youth reach their full potential by mentoring tomorrow’s leaders today. As an organization we seek to impart knowledge, skills and problem solving strategies to selected youth leaders, while simultaneously benefiting from the energy, idealism and fresh thinking these leaders brings to the table of shuraa.

Briefly, the students selected for this program are recommended by their high school teachers, counselors, and principals, college professors, or civic leaders. They are students who by their character, leadership and community service, have earned the respect of their educators and community leaders.

The Program is a nine-month program which places all the student volunteers on a council where they can consult and collaborate as a leadership group while each is also simultaneously assigned to a CWSC committee or team working with its director. Like other team members, LDC members participate in team teleconferences, problem solving sessions and engage in strategic planning for their team or committee.

One member from the LDC is selected from among its council to attend CWSC governance meetings (or teleconferences) as an observer; the selected LDC member will be able to participate in discussion and offer his or her advice or opinion.

Successful participants are graduated with a CWSC Leadership Development Council certificate respected for future resumes and are eligible per program guidlines to apply for available CWSC scholarships.
