CWSC Advances National Faith-Based Financial Literacy Initiative and Hi-Tech Education & Jobs Assistance Collaboratives
“The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower is slave to the lender.” —Proverbs 22:1748
“…and they say: trade is just like usury; but Allah hath permitted trade and forbidden usury…—Al-Qur’an 2:277
“Say: Who has forbidden the beautiful gifts of Allah, which He has produced for His servants, and the things, clean and pure He provides for sustenance? Say: They are, in the life of this world, for those who believe, and purely for them on the Day of Judgment.”—Al-Qur’an 7:32

NATIONAL― What if we could as hundreds of thousands or even millions across the country, put our hearts, minds, and hands together with true faith in the Creator and begin looking at some major chronic social justice issues of our time from a fresh perspective–a perspective wherein people of faith take back the measure of their responsibility for problem solving and not overly depend on the White House and State House to do what we can and must from our house…
That sentiment was front and center for CWSC’s newly appointed Director for Faith-based Collaboratives, Imam Nazim Pasha, as he along with other CWSC leaders discussed three major national initiatives that when taken together could be game changers for communities of color, historically disadvantaged communities and well beyond.
Imam Pasha is a national radio talk show host for the American Muslim 360 Radio Network at AM360.org and host for two Sunday morning weekly shows including Al-Islam Based Conversation and Financial Literacy Equals Financial Liberation. He’s a student of Imam W. Deen Mohammed (R) and believes in helping individuals and families empower themselves especially on the road to prosperity.
Imam Pasha’s almost folksy and matter-of-fact easy style of delivery has endeared him to the AM360 listenership and Financial Literacy Equals Financial Liberation is now one of the fastest growing audiences at AM360.
While both shows offer a compelling message to reach for the highest level of excellence in our personal, family and community lives, it’s the second show that reflects a direct passion for helping others learn the core financial principles that so many of us fail to learn; and so we commit major financial mistakes year after year, with the result that we wind up with the wrong type of mortgage or insurance product, or poor credit ratings, or spending habits that steal current and next generation wealth—or worse, unmanageable financial burdens that steal our dreams and kill our aspirations and ultimately prevent us from having the time to devote to helping improve our community life.
Imam Pasha states, “What does it take to break the cycle of generational poverty? The Bible says the borrower is slave to the lender. The Qur’an says “‘O you who believe! Devour not usury, doubling and quadrupling. Observe your duty to Allah that ye may be successful.” It’s time that we as believers get our share of prosperity so we can have greater excellence in our community life. Among the worst offenders that rob us generationally of our prosperity are bad debt, poor credit rating, poor spending and savings habits and many other traps. But the greatest offender of all, is our lack of knowledge across the spectrum of financial literacy. Fortunately, it doesn’t have to be that way.
We have to do something different to get out of the vicious cycle of poor financial decision-making and having to earn more and more money for more and more things that we often don’t need albeit the marketers have told us we do—and stop trading valuable time without having a plan to become free.”
Imam Pasha says, “The collaborative approach being offered through CWSC is a proven approach to becoming free and I’m proud to be facilitating the CWSC national connection with our Christian brethren who share similar values and concerns with us about the consumer-driven marketing approach that has us spending without thinking and consequently failing to save and invest in ourselves, families and communities first.”
Imam Nazim is also CWSC’s Director for Faith-based Collaboratives (FBC) through which CWSC seeks partnerships with organizations to help bring benefits to communities nationwide. Imam Pasha currently oversees the Financial Literacy FBC and Education FBC as the CWSC liaison with Pathway Global, LLC, a hi-tech 21st century online education firm offering post education hi-touch job assistance in some of the leading technical fields with employers like Google, Apple and Microsoft.
While Pathway Global’s founders are Muslims, Imam Nazim’s company liaisons with our Christian brethren in financial literacy.
Tune in to this Friday’s July 12, 2019 edition of Community Buzz when Imam Nazim and Pathway Global’s Managing Partner and Senior Consultant Ghufran Ahmad will be the featured guests; tune in AM360.org or dial in at (701) 719-4197 at 8 p.m. EST.
CWSC Executive Director Mukhtar Muhammad states, “While politics has its place, we can’t as faith-based communities abdicate our responsibility and take only the political route to address society’s big problems. After all, faith-based communities have been the architects of some really big and positive things for the whole of mankind from the Ten Commandments to the Renaissance with developments from law to science. So we have a track record for serving humanity, especially when we work together. Now it’s time to draw on that faith legacy.”
CWSC is also looking at a national affordable health care alternative for families through an interfaith partnership and is calling for health insurance experts to come to the table of shuraa baynahum and help negotiate a benefits program. The combination of addressing affordable healthcare, education and jobs, and financial literacy can be a game changer for the path to prosperity.
