AM360 CEO Represents CWSC at U.N. Pre-Conference on Global Drug Policy…

Dr Aisha Kareem

Dr. Aisha Kareem, CEO for American Muslim 360 and Chair of the AM360 Governance Committee, was recently invited to represent the CWSC and to deliver an ecumenical prayer at the United Nations General Assembly Special Session (UNGASS) on the 2016 Global Drug Policy. The UNGASS Conference was led by the Samuel DeWitt Proctor Conference, a national faith-based consortium of organizations focused on social justice issue and service to historically disadvantaged communities.

The intense Conference includes a Brain Trust Consultant Group Special Multifaith Pre-session presentation of a working paper on Drug Policy and Harm Reduction in preparation for the April 2016 United Nations General Assembly. The primary goal of the pre-session and subsequent work is to undertake the issues of reform and transformation for the nation’s criminal justice system and “address drug policies that intersect with policies related to HIV prevention; drug production and trade agreements; human rights and public health practices; law enforcement and sentencing policies; and compassionate models of care for the families and communities impacted by drug addiction. The pre-session will provide an opportunity to share specific interests, program updates and resources, and identify specific multi-faith outreach and communication strategies that support ongoing advocacy and 2016 UNGASS participation. Additionally, a multi-faith dialogue will be initiated which sets the stage for a long-term shared investment as stakeholders and partners.”

Proctor’s Secretary General, Dr. Iva Carruthers was a gracious hostess to Dr. Aisha who will return with Proctor to attend the 2016 U.N. General Assembly in New York. Stay tuned for an update on a special AM360 interview with the Proctor Secretary General, Dr. Carruthers.
