The Ramadan Eid: Renewal and Redemption

INTERNATIONAL – By Allah’s Mercy, we are this year, perhaps more than ever, cognizant of reaching out to one another in love, prayer, peace, goodwill, hope, and joy…and not just to my tribe, or family or party, or race or my countrymen, but to all humanity. If we didn’t see before how we’re all connected, surely we must see now that we’re truly one human family.

Ramadan and its culmination in Eid-ul-Fitr offer a unique opportunity to return to the original pattern of human nature exemplified by respectful regardfulness of the Creator in not wishing to displease Him nor take for granted the gifts our Lord provides us each second of every day. And among the gifts he has given us are one another. The Blessed Month tempers us also with patience, fortitude and a resolve to be better tomorrow than we are today, and to remember that with every difficulty comes ease. Now, may His Mercy, Forgiveness, and Salvation be with us all year long. Eid Sayeed Mubarak!

Earlier this year in March, the CWSC sponsored the 20/20 National Intelligentsia Interfaith Cruise to Cozumel, Mexico, Western Caribbean. By Allah’s Grace, it was one of the last cruises that sailed before shutdown of the Cruise Industry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The interfaith event beginning in Tampa, Florida  with a welcome from the Mayors of both Tampa and St. Petersburg, followed by a warm reception at the historic Church of Scientology at Ybor City, was a great success spiritually, educationally, physically, emotionally, and recreationally and a wonderful time for strengthening relationships with family, friends and communities across the nation. Congrats to CWSC Director for Christian-Muslim Relations, Debbie Shankman, who has been selected to represent the CWSC! Last year CWSC was represented at Muslim Advocacy Day and presented the first iteration of the Never Again Interfaith Letter In the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting. Sister Debbie was part of a CWSC Delegation last year that delivered to several Senate and House Leaders a 2nd iteration of the Letter signed by some 60 organizations including the Secretary General of the World Council of Religious Leaders. It was Sister Debbie’s stellar support and compassionate leadership that led to her appointment as CWSC Director for Christian-Muslim Relations.
