A Sober Patriotism on Independence Day

“Let there be a community among you who will invite people to do good, command what is proper and forbid what is improper, those will be prosperous.” Al-Qur’an, 3:104

From the City of Madina Charter Issued by Prophet Muhammed (S)

“The peace of the Believers (of the State of Madinah) cannot be divided. (It is either peace or war for all. It cannot be that a part of the population is at war with the outsiders and a part is at peace). No separate peace will be made by anyone in Madinah when Believers are fighting in the Path of Allah. Conditions of peace and war and the accompanying ease or hardships must be fair and equitable to all citizens alike.”

“We must work to build a better place for ourselves…One that will benefit all people, regardless of race or religion.”Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (R)

NATIONAL – Every year on the 4th of July, Independence Day is celebrated as the anniversary of the publication of the declaration of independence from Great Britain in 1776. The Declaration has for more than two hundred years held together one of the most politically, economically, and technologically successful nations in history. Yet another two hundred years are less the stuff of manifest destiny, and more a matter of the collective faith and group intellect of it citizens.

Over the centuries, America has become more diverse and well beyond the ethnic and faith groups captured in the eloquently articulated prose of Dr. King’s “I Have A Dream” speech delivered on the National Mall against the backdrop of the monument to America’s 16th President, Abraham Lincoln who of course signed the Emancipation Proclamation. The time period between both events, that is the Declaration of Independence and the Emancipation Proclamation being 87 years. Then King’s speech comes another 100 years later asking for many of the same basic human liberties and civil rights.

It should come as no surprise that disparate views about what this day means, should mean or can mean will abound.

Perhaps the best course is to come to the table to hear diverse opinions with the intention of building upon the best, and discarding the rest as lessons of history not to be repeated prayerfully, and hopefully done so while adhering to the adage “don’t throw the baby out with the bath water.”

A lot of folks for generations have invested blood, sweat, tears, and treasure to make this union more perfect. As an American Muslim institution committed to helping America be her best, we think she’s worth fighting for. We hope you agree, but if you don’t, you’re at a place where your intellect is respected and your voice protected—and that’s a hallmark of being a believer and an American.

We wish you and your family a Safe and Happy 4th of July! Note: Stay tuned to AM360.org for special featured programming featuring the Commentary of Imam W. Deen Mohammed (R) on the meaning of Independence Day tonite @ 10:30 p.m. EST only on the #1 Islamic radio station in the nation where your intellect is respected and your voice protected.

National Town Hall on Prosperity Encore

“Those who hearken to their Lord, and establish regular Prayer; who conduct their affairs by mutual consultation; who spend out of what We bestow on them for Sustenance…” Al-Qur’an, 42:38

NATIONAL – The verdict is in and the overwhelming opinion is that the CWSC National Town Hall held live on AM360.org was a powerful and compelling presentation and justification to continue building both the National Intelligentsia to serve everyone.

The panelists and moderators who helped host the historic event comprised leaders from the Muslim and Christian faiths and included expertise from the fields of law and financial literacy to insurance and tax specialists, and national media leaders. Stay tuned for special email notifications of an encore of both Parts 1 & 2 of the Town Hall on Prosperity. Check out the international publication Muslim Journal too for information on the Town Hall.

While the most recent Town Hall discussion lasted for three hours, many are already saying we need to continue the discussion. CWSC Director and a co-moderator of the discussion stated, “We will never have enough time to address everything, especially with so complex a subject matter. Obviously the goal was not to solve everyone’s individual or personal and every community’s collective financial and economic issues, but to open a different pathway into a possible route for problem-solving by hosting such an event. We’re getting in a high volume of very positive comments; though such is not the full measure of the success yardstick; our greatest measure is the attainment of a working national group intellect focused in on Prosperity on a more sustained basis and outside of a town hall format…that’s where the real work and progress will be made.”

Click here for more Town Hall information. To join with like minded believers interested in addressing prosperity, send an email interest to info@cwsc.us…together we can remake the world.

The new CWSC Learning Lab Series Building the Community Life Seminar will feature a continuation of some of the issues discussed during the Town Hall and will feature interviews with the panelists and moderator.

CWSC aims to provide a shared freedom space for the group intellect. Views expressed in panel discussions and other forums on-air and off do not necessarily reflect the policies and /or opinions of CWSC or AM360.

Honoring the Life of Dr. Zakiyyah Muhammad

With Allah’s Name, the Merciful Benefactor, the Merciful Redeemer

“…But among them is he who says, “Our Lord, give us in this world [that which is] good and in the Hereafter [that which is] good and protect us from the punishment of the Fire.” Al-Qur’an, Sura Al-Baqarah, 201

“To Him will be your return (of all of you). The Promise of Allah is true and sure. It is He who begins the process of creation, and repeats it, that He may reward with justice those who believe and work righteousness…” Al-Qur’an, Sura Yunus, 4

“When My servants ask thee concerning Me, I am indeed close to them: I listen to the prayer of every suppliant when he calleth on Me: Let them also, with a will, Listen to My call, and believe in Me: That they may walk in the right way.” Al-Qur’an, Al-Baqarah, 186

The Community Wide Shuraa Conference (CWSC) expresses condolences to the family of our Sister, the late Dr. Zakiyyah Muhammad, President of the Institute for Muslim American Studies (IMAS), Anaheim California, and to her community.

The loss of Dr. Zakiyyah is a loss for the entire American Muslim Intelligentsia as she was an academic scholar, educator, publisher, author, and community leader. She will be especially missed by her CWSC family where she served as Director for the CWSC National Scholarship Committee and collaborated as an institutional partner and leader in our shared freedom space. Dr. Zaikyyah also contributed her intellect and energy helping with the CWSC concept both before and after the organization’s inception.

Her voice will be missed, but has not been silenced, for she will forever speak through her writings and legacy of work, especially in strengthening private Islamic educational school systems.

On Friday, July 5th, 2019, a special three-hour CWSC AM360.org Friday Roundtable beginning at 7 a.m. EST will be hosted by Mark Shahid, and feature her family, colleagues, and leaders from around the country who will share in remembering a great American Muslimah pioneer and leader.

As we grieve with her family, friends, and communities around the nation, we celebrate her achievements and express our gratitude for her work in making a better home for Al-Islam in America.  We pray that Allah (SWT) will say to His Servant, “Well Done! Enter you among my workers; enter into my Paradise.”

Muslims have a well-known track record in criminal justice reform with a demonstrated commitment and ability to help those who need a second chance. Prisoner Reform with Imam Bilal Saleem which focuses on re-entry and post incarceration strategies for success also debuted. Check out the AM360.Lineup here.

We have responded to many who needed the proper forum for community announcements and interviews on events happening nationwide. Calling in and interrupting a show’s subject matter to try and promote an event at the wrong time does no one any good.

We’re doing away with hour-long interviews and repetitive coverage of event interviews  on multiple AM360 shows which creates poor podcasting and an inefficient and duplicative use of our airways. We’ve heard you — our listenership.

We’re pleased to announce the launch of Community Buzz, a weekly magazine show that will feature community announcements, events & happenings and 15-minute segmented interviews with event planners, organizers or other event representatives. You can even call in and share your event.  The title Community Buzz will also have a companion page on the CWSC Website for sharing information on upcoming events. And our Calendar of Events will offer yet another opportunity for an organization to share information on its upcoming event. We also offer corporate and event advertising if you need additional event promotion. Community Buzz has launched! Hear it each Friday at 8 – 9 p.m. EST.

Click here to get an announcement on air (time permitting). And click here if you have a programming idea for AM360.org. Click here for our live and podcasting program schedule. And finally, if you like what you see at CWSC, see Making Connections below then become a part of the history making work. Everything you see happening is because of committed volunteers. Finally, WOMEN VOICES are needed at AM360.org! Contact us now. Together we can remake the world. Ramadan Mubarak!
