Honoring the Twin Servant-$ecuring Our Intelligentsia

Historic Financial Step to $ecure Our Intelligentsia

The Twin Servant

Imam Thomas Abdul Salaam

NATIONAL ― As-Salaam-Alaikum (Peace be with you).

On December 25, while the Christmas celebration was in full swing, Community Wide Shuraa Conference (CWSC) volunteers were busy preparing for the first ever CWSC AM360 Radio-Telethon to help raise funds for American Muslim 360 (AM360) and all the national intelligentsia operations that serve our group intellect and the broader society.

Early Saturday morning at 7 a.m. eastern standard time, CWSC volunteers and AM360 talk show hosts Imams Karriem Hameed and Yahya Shabazz opened the airways on the first broadcast program of the day, Revolutionary Thought and Created Purpose, and welcomed the day’s Pause for the Cause Telethon Team Sister Martha Nailah Williams and Mukhtar Muhammad. The Saturday morning program true to its title took the believers around the world touching on topics like the fall of Soviet Russia, to the Civil War, to the Al Shababb thwarted terror attacks in Nairobi, Kenya.

The Imams were interweaving history and current events into a tapestry on Islam, the Life example of Muhammed (SAW) the Prophet and the tafsir of Imam Dr. W. Deen Mohammed (RA) in a comprehensive discussion of faith and the proper application of Al-Qur’an in the 21st century.

The Saturday morning discussion was typical of the groundbreaking introspection and analyses the AM360 listenership has come to expect. Yet on this occasion, a very important reminder was integrated into the regular programming by the Imams, Sister Martha, CWSC’s corporate secretary, Brother Mukhtar, CWSC’s executive director, and CWSC and AM360 Director of Public Affairs, Mark Shahid, when they asked the believers to consider that AM360 is provided free as one of many community services by CWSC, but it nevertheless costs money and the bill must be paid every month. Brother Mukhtar states, “We don’t consider the alternative of not providing this service. We’re guided first and foremost by our faith in Allah (SWT) and He will enlarge and restrict the measure as He pleases. Our Imam cautioned us that ‘We cannot stop now,’ and our Brother Thomas Abdul Salaam, founder of AM360 and CWSC frequently reminded us that ‘If it is to be, then it’s up to me.’ So we’re cognizant that leadership is in the resourceful people and resourceful people together are themselves a powerful financial resource.”

“For many believers, AM360 is an essential and sometimes sole connection to the community, especially for our elderly, infirm and others who can’t for example attend a musella on Fridays to hear the Jumah khutbah. AM360, just one of several CWSC intelligentsia components, broadcasts more than 30 programs offering 24 hours a day Islamic broadcasting from religion, politics, faith and education, to music, health, the arts, physical fitness and more–and were doing so in our voice and in accordance with the best of our group aspiration,” says Sister Martha.

The believers are being urged to help share collectively what is truly our obligation as a group intellect and that is to secure the financial foundation for CWSC and AM360 by contributing tax deductible gifts during the National Telethon beginning December 26 and culminating on January 19, 2016 in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. A sense of urgency was shared in that a charitable contribution made before the end of the year can result in donor tax savings for the 2015 tax filing season. Moreover, PayPal, our transaction secure processor will add an additional 1% to a contribution. And it’s easy to contribute either online and offline. Donors can click here or on the blue donate button prominently displayed on each page of the CWSC website or you can visit CWSC on facebook and click on the donate now button.

Believers can pledge their support by phone at (910) 317-0297. Give your name, telephone and email and a representative will assist you. By U.S Mail, please make check payable to CWSC and mail to:

From helping college students afford a higher education, leading ground-breaking seminars, helping nonprofits and for profits with the expertise they need to succeed, and serving as a powerful voice against religious extremism and Islamophobia, to broadcasting more Salatul Jumahs from the widest group intellect than any other medium, CWSC is serving the vital interests of our Community.

In addition to the AM360 flagship broadcasting center, CWSC provides free support services to all our communities and to the broader society. Strong financial support  will help us:

• Sustain and expand the AM360 programming and audience.
• Operate the Model Communities National Resource Directory and Network.
• Operate the National Think Tank and Clearing House.
• Sustain and grow the National Speakers Bureau.
• Administer & fund national scholarship & cultural historical preservation programs.
• Administer leadership & internship programs
• Conduct national learning labs.
• Provide free technical and consulting support to masajid and other institutions nationwide.
• Forge intra-faith ties and collaboration through the National Leadership Advisory Council that brings together more than 23 leaders of our national sister organizations throughout the U.S. together in mutually respectful consultation.

Following Saturday morning’s kickoff drive, CWSC Teams and AM360 hosts made the rounds on several programs including Saturday Evening Special programming in which listeners were treated to a powerful impromptu women’s conference with new AM360 The Birth of Women host Dr. Ameena Ali; then AM360 host Imam Faheem Shuaibe phoned in his support and appreciation on Tampa Bay Area Muslim Association broadcast hosted by Sister Martha. The group was joined by AM360’s executive producer, William Kareem; Mark Shahid; host Karriem Hameed and Muslim Women in Action executive director, Sister Hadee-Beyah who shared an enthusiastic message of support and solidarity in the cause.

On Sunday’s Clear Talk with hosts Mustafa and Kim Mujahid, Dr. Aisha Kareem, widow of Brother Thomas, co-founder of AM360 and CWSC and currently CEO for AM360 shared special remembrances about the early struggles of AM360 and honored Sister Rosie for her critical support in the early days of the broadcasting network. Later the National Telethon Coordinator Sister Latifa Ziyad, a tv and radio communications professional and host of Music and Moor, provided goals, strategies and other information on the Telethon and why believer support is well deserved and needed. Listen for the Telethon on all AM360 programming.

CWSC leaders shared some very special news with the audience that with the current telethon effort, a portion of contributions are planned for the establishment of a new CWSC MAP college scholarship in honor of Brother Thomas Abdul Salaam. The scholarship would be the third established at CWSC in less than 18 months and is a fitting honor to a community leader who selflessly gave of his intellect, wealth, time, and energies to his last breath to help fulfill the vision of Imam W. Deen Mohammed to practically connect the group intellect and to establish a national working intelligentsia.

Before his passing, our Brother Imam Thomas Abdul Salaam after years of struggle saw AM360 become the #1 Islamic blogtalk radio station in America, honored as a major media influencer, and is currently celebrating 500,000+ listens and counting. He also saw the strength of a collective national intellect working to forge the infrastructure of the CWSC and he followed the logic of Imam Mohammed.

Thomas was blessed to make powerful connections in that he integrated the vision of a national working intelligentsia with a powerful broadcasting medium. He brought together CWSC and AM360 to create the shared freedom space for ideas coming from our group intellect; and he paired that freedom with the apparatus or infrastructure to connect believers anywhere in the country or even the world, to work for the realization of those ideas. His vision and service to our community is now being honored in a special way during this Telethon and with the support of believers all over the nation, CWSC will establish the Twin Servant of Peace Excellence in Broadcasting & Communications College Scholarship Award. The scholarship will honor the work of Imam Thomas while encouraging the next generation of broadcasters, journalists and authors to think big, just as Thomas did…to help remake the world.
